general_view_excavations1.JPGWe are looking for “some good men and women” to join our team as we continue to discover the multi-faceted past of the Holy Land.

Join us from July 9th until August 4th, 2006, when we once again return to Tell es-Safi/Gath, to continue revealing the exciting finds of from various cultures and periods.

The ongoing excavations at Tell es-Safi/Gath, have produced a wide-range of interesting, important, and exciting finds, from a wide range of periods and cultures. Most recently, we have been revealing finds from the Philistine culture Aren1.jpg(including the so-called “Goliath Inscription”), the remains of Hazael’s siege and conquest of Gath (as mentioned in II Kings 12:18), impressive remains from the Early Bronze Age (3rd mill. BCE), evidence of the final stages of the Canaanite city of Gath at the end of the Late Bronze Age (ca. 1200 BCE), and evidence of the Crusader periods fortress (“Blanche Garde”, ca mid-11th cent. CE).

This coming summer we will once again be in the field, and we invite all able-bodied, interested, and motivated people to join our team, as volunteers (and/or as participants in the accredited academic field school). Although it is not easy work, we do promise a very special experience – combining truly “touching the past,” along with a unique experience, seeing new places, meeting new people (of many cultural backgrounds), and generally, having a fun time! Our team is usually comprised of archaeologists, students and volunteers from all over the world, covering a wide range of cultures, places, religions, beliefs, and world-views, ranging from 16 through 80 years of age!

If you are interested in looking into the option, may I suggest that you take a look at our website (http://www.dig-gath.org/), and in particular, the information regarding volunteering options (and the relevant registration forms). Please feel free to contact me (maeira@mail.biu.ac.il), if you have any questions.

Note that groups can join as well!

Hope to see you on our team this summer,

Aren Maeir,

Project Director
