In the near future, a nice group of publications about different aspects of the Tell es-Safi/Gath excavations will appear. This includes several scholarly articles that are about to appear, as well as several popular article and newspaper items. Needless to say, I’ll keep you updated on what and where things appear.
Today, I received in the mail a copy of “Welt und Umwelt der Bible” (WUB), no. 45/3 (2007). WUB is a very well-produced German-language magazine which deals with various aspects of the Bible and its cultural surroundings. This particular issue has a series of very interesting articles about the “Forgotten Gospels” (”Verborgene Evangelien”).
On page 70 of this issue there is a short article (written originally in English by yours truly and translated by the editors of WUB) about recent finds at Tell es-Safi/Gath, including mention of the siege trench, the late 9th cent. BCE destruction, the so-called “Goliath” inscription, and other issues.
In addition, there is information for German-reading folks how to volunteer for the dig.
One final note - heads up for a short article about the dig that should appear tomorrow in the Haaretz newspaper - hopefully in Hebrew and English. Will you keep you all updated.
