Here is a archaeological quiz, in the spirit of Purim:
What site in the eastern Mediterranean does this picture hint to?
A free Safi T-shirt to the person who guesses correctly within the next 24 hours!
(those who have already heard the answer cannot participate…)
UPDATE: one of those who knew the answer posted the answer without noticing my comment in the parentheses, but the answer was deleted – so the quiz is still open!
Second update and hint: It’s a site which some suggest is connected to the Sea Peoples phenomenon…
Aren

I’m pretty sure you have something else in mind, but what I see is the famous seated woman of Munhata. (Maybe just because I volunteered there some twenty years ago, that’s what I want to see.)
Here she is — http://www.imj.org.il/imagine/galleries/viewItemE.asp?case=1&srm=Farmers%20and%20shepherds&itemNum=197937
Nice try – but not what I had in mind… :-)
Ashkelon?
Nope…
It must be a site with 8 evenly distributed strata, & no burnt/destruction layers!
Nope…
It’s probably not a Philistine site because there do not appear to be any pig bones in the cookies.
Getting warmer – it is not a Philistine site!
If you had asked what site in America, I would say Site 13 in Utah (near Canyon Lands National Park) since the earliest traces of chocolate were discovered there in pottery – 770 AD. :)
Nope – not even close… :-)
Timnah?
Nope – it has to have some connection to the picture!
Bethlehem?
Nope…
Aren, Give them a hint… Louise
See 2nd update…
Might be time for another hint soon….
They look like the strings of dates, usually carbonized, found in ancient jars.
But I don’t know the site you hint at.
Please see http://jerusalemhillsdailyphoto.blogspot.co.il/2013/03/strings-of-dates.html
Oi, sorry! I meant strings of FIGS of course, not dates.
Tell Tayinat, Ahwat, or Dor.
Nope, Tell Tayinat is a Philistine site.
Pyla-Kokkinokremos?
(Cookie-no-cream-on?)
You just might be right.
“Thus, both Pyla and Maa were built by newcomers to the island. Our identifications of these newcomers until now have been general. If we may be more specific, it seems likely that they were in fact Sea Peoples.”

The period at the end is part of the link.
Igor – you are right!!! :-)
This is a “Pile of cookies no creamos”, or Pyla-Kokkinokremos, the well-known LC IIIA site, excavated and published by Karageorghis and Demas (1984)!!
And now Igor – write to me an email with your address (and shirt size!) – and we’ll send you a shirt !!
But he didn’t respond correctly within 24 hours!

Igor responded the next day – close enough…
One day, two days–what does it matter when we are on JST, Jewish Standard Time. :)
