Update for March 6, 2008: Please note that based on the discussion in the comments, it turns out that this photo is not of Tell es-Safi/Gath, but of Tel Erani. This is a RATHER embarrasing mistake on my part …

Dr. Ferrell Jenkins (who has a great Biblical Studies site) has a great foto of the northeastern portion of Tell es-Safi/Gath posted on his blog, that was taken back in 1969 (looking SW).

Ferrell has given me permission to post it here as well.

According to a post in the Bible Studies list, Jim West’s fascinating, if at times provocative, but extremely popular blog has been erased from cyber-space by someone who figured out his password!

Whoa – this is scarey!! One can only wonder who the fiend was??? (In nomine Domini incipit omne malum?)

Jim – hope you recover from this.

Enough of all this fake archaeology — digging, research and boring publications!

Let’s get to the really interesting parts of this profession – the way things really look like on a daily basis in the field!

The Bibleplaces blog has brought to our attention that the first trailers of the new Indiana Jones film are out!

Now that’s real archaeology!
