A very nice article on the use of “microarchaeology” (or as some call it, archaeological science) at Tell es-Safi/Gath has appeared in the popular magazine Archaeology. Although rather brief, it discusses the major contribution that the integration of microarchaeological perspectives have added on our dig. Based on an extensive interview with Steve Weiner (and with yours truly as well), it brings examples of how this is implemented, and its contributions at Safi.
Among others, it mentions the very interesting evidence of Philistine metal working found at the site last summer (see here), and has a nice picture of the on-site lab in the excavation.
Check it out!
