Foto of scarab from last week

As mentioned already last week, a very nice scarab was found under the floors of the LB building in Area E. After a quick look at the scarab, I had a feeling that it could be dated to the 19th Dynasty in Egypt, fitting in perfectly with the late LB dating of this building.

The dating of this scarab has now been confirmed by Prof. Othmar Keel, who states that it is a well-known type, found at other sites in Canaan and apparently produced in Memphis Egypt.

The scarab, which bears the inscription ptah neb-maat (Ptah, the Lord of Truth), is apparently made of faience.

See here a very nice picture of the scarab base and its impression.
