I have just been informed some very sad news – that Prof. Itamar Singer, a world-class scholar and a very special person, has passed away.
Itamar, one of the world’s premier experts on all thing relating to the Hittites and their culture, as well as many other topics connected to the Late Bronze and Iron Ages, was a model of how to conduct thorough, meticulous and wide ranging research, combining a deep knowledge of history, philology and archaeology. He will be sorely missed by all who deal with the Ancient Near East, and those who knew him as a friend, colleague and teacher.
Itamar always closely followed our work at Tell es-Safi/Gath (see for example here) and on several occasions was kind enough to give detailed advice on various issues that came up in relation to the analysis of the finds from the excavation (such as our research and publication of the ALWT/WLT inscription).
Deep condolences to Graciela, Itamar’s wife.
יהי זכרו ברוך!

That indeed is very sad news. I admired Itamar Singer so much. His death is a great loss for all those who take biblical archaeology seriously and allow the Bible to play its part in it.
