Full scale 3D model of Iron IIB “Pillar Figurine” from Tell es-Safi/Gath

A “Judahite” Pillar Figurine, dating to the late 8th cent BCE was found years ago in Stratum A2 in Area D, in a level most likely associated with the short period in the late 8th century BCE when Gath was under Judahite control.

Several years ago, as part of my MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in Biblical Archaeology, Vanessa and Maria prepared a 3D model of the figurine, which was part of the course materials.

Now, Noam used this model to print up, with our 3D printer, a full scale 3D model of the figurine. As you can see below, the morphological details of the model (on the right) are virtually identical to that of the original figurine (on the left).

Now, Noam is going to try and paint the model with a similar color, so that it will really look like the original item. We’ll post a picture of the painted version ASAP.

Very cool!
