Last week, some of the Safi team visited the IAA storerooms to look at comparative materials that have been found in other excavations.
Here are Mor, Shira and Itzik checking out objects in the fantastically well-organized IAA storerooms.
During the visit, they noticed that our beautiful stone altar, discovered with much fanfare during the 2010 season and soon to be exhibited in the renewed Ashdod Museum, was laying quietly, in the cold, in the storerooms…
I hope it was not too lonely…

P.S. And right next to it, if I’m not mistaken, is a very nice stone bath from the early Iron Age levels at Ashkelon – so they can speak Philistine to each other…
